Doris Catherine Hightower age 91 of Macomb, passed away, Monday, September 21, 2015, at Wesley Village Memory Care Unit.  She was born July 27, 1924 in Rushville, Illinois, to Carl and Carrie Simpson Heitz.  Doris was united in marriage on June 22, 1946, in Rushville, Illinois to Rolla Hightower Jr., he preceded her in death on July 6, 2007.  Also she was preceded by her parents, 3 Brothers: Kermit, Albert and Robert Heitz.
Surviving to mourn her passing are 1 Daughter: Deborah (Darrell) Negley, Macomb, Illinois, 1 Son: Michael (Tara) Hightower, Poway, California, 7 Grandchildren: Jason (Reanna) Hightower, Ryan Hightower, Corey Hightower, all of San Diego, California, Skyler, Riley and Kodi Hightower of Poway, California, Drew Negley of Littleton, Colorado, 2 Great Grandchildren: Nolan and Samuel Hightower of San Diego, California, 1 Brother-in-Law: Robert Hightower of Kirksville, Missouri and 1 Sister-in-Law: Norma Heitz of Rushville, Illinois.
Doris was employed at the Schuyler Telephone Company and Mickelberry Packing Company in Rushville before moving to Colchester.  She then worked at the Colchester Grade School Cafeteria, before working in the Cataloging department of the Western Illinois University Library for 20 years, until her retirement in 1986.  She was a 1942 graduate of Rushville High School, Doris was a member of the Macomb Church of God Abrahamic Faith where she also served as treasurer.  Doris enjoyed her grandchildren, pets, baking, quilting, and knitting.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 3, 2015, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Darrell Cardwell.  Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 till 1:00 at the Funeral home on Saturday.  Burial will take place at Mt. Eldon L. McCoy age 72 of Good Hope, Illinois, went to be with his Lord at 10:18 P.M. Sunday, September 6, 2015.  He was born November 15, 1942, in Galva, Illinois to Melvin and Elizabeth Noble McCoy.  He was united in marriage to Janice Tones in Macomb on November 16, 1961, she survives of Good Hope.

Jean Scott age 85 of O’Fallon, Missouri, formerly of Colchester, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015, at St. Peters, Missouri.  She was born November 3, 1929 in Moscow, Maine to Coburn Earl and Dorothy Lee McKinney Finnemore.

Betty Gwen Griswold age 89 of Macomb, formerly of Colchester, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2015, at the Miller Rehabilitation Center, in Kankakee, Illinois.  She was born September, 6, 1925, in Macomb, Illinois to Glen and Hazel Welch Zimmerman.  Betty was united in marriage on January 19, 1944, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to Glennon Griswold.  He preceded her in death on April 6, 1992.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 Sons: T.J. and Glade Griswold. 1 Granddaughter, Melody Wainwright, 1 Son In Law: Dannie Markham and 1 Brother: Robert G. Zimmerman.

Shirley A. Burton age 75 of Macomb, passed away at 9:30 P.M. Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb.  She was born March 12, 1940, in Colchester to Roy and Margaret Miller Johnson.  They both preceded her in death.
Surviving to mourn her passing are 2 Sons: Terry and Tabitha Burton, Blandinsville, Tim Burton, Arkansas, 1 Daughter: Teresa and Joe Rodriguez, Louisiana, 7 Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 1 Brother: Pete and Sandy Johnson, Galesburg, Illinois, 2 Nephews and 3 Great Nephews.
Shirley had worked as a CNA at the Elms and Heartland Health Care Center in Macomb, along with food services at Western Illinois University and Ponderosa in Macomb.

Vera Ruth Harper - 85

Vera R. Harper, 85 of Macomb, went to be with her Lord at 4:15 P.M., Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Heartland Healthcare Center of Macomb.  She was born March 23, 1930 near Silver City, Iowa to Howard and Lucy (Downing) Freeman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Wade, Don and Richard.
Surviving are one daughter, Shirley (Michael) Galloway of Colchester, one son, Alan (Valeria) Harper on Lenox, Iowa, one brother Herb (Martha) Freeman of Villisca, Iowa, one sister Vivian (Howard) Bailey of St. Joseph, Missouri, six grandchildren, Stacy (Aaron) Seaman, Kendall (Haley) Thrapp, Taycey (Keith) Post, James (Amy) Harper, Jesse Harper, Rivel Harper, and 15 great Grandchildren, Kira, Eli, Zander T., Zoey, Will, Nick, Gabe, Zander S., Zayley, Zephiniah, Jonah, Zara, Roman, Olivia, and Lola.
Vera grew up on a farm in Iowa as one of six children.  She got her teaching certificate at age 17 and taught in rural schools from 1947 to 1952.  She loved the Lord and was involved with her church and sang in the choir.  She was married to Dean Harper (deceased) in 1952 and lived in Lenox, Iowa, for 46 years.  After raising their two children she worked for O’Bryan Brothers in Bedford, Iowa, as a secretary for National Farmers Organization in Corning, Iowa, and as a word processor in data processing at the First National Bank in Creston, Iowa, until she retired.  She moved to Macomb, Illinois, in 1998 to be near family, where she lived out her remaining years.
Vera dearly loved visiting, singing, and playing with all of her grandchildren.  She enjoyed writing poetry to her grandchildren.  She liked to read scripture and all kinds of books.  She loved nature and flowers and had many in her yard she tended as a hobby.  She loved cats and enjoyed several of her own for many years and also enjoyed her daughter;s cat visiting the nursing home during her last year of life.  She enjoyed traveling in her earlier years and even did a tandem skydive at age 54!  She sang vocals in a country music band, called The Stragglers, for many years at nursing homes and various events before moving to Illinois, She enjoyed visiting with everyone and always had a beautiful smile to greet you.  She never complained and was always generous and caring to others.  She will be missed by all.
Celebration of Life services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, August 22, 2015, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Rev. Sam Kostreva.  Visitation with the family will be from 2:30 to 4:00 P.M. Bety Jean Avery - 82

Betty Jean (Cleland) Avery, 82 of Colchester, passed away at 7:55 A.M. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at her residence.  She was born December 6, 1932, in Kirkwood, Illinois to Howard Cleland and Mable (Torrance) Kurtz.
She Married Fred J. Avery on May 1, 1951 in Macomb, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on April 14, 1990.
She is survived by Two Children; Frieda Avery of Colchester, Dallas (April) Avery of West Point, Illinois, Three Grandchildren: Rosa (Lonnie) Feld of Colchester, Illinois , Dakota Avery of Ursa, Illinois, Gage Avery (Bridgette Fouts ) of Quincy, Illinois, Four Great Grandchildren, Gavin Feld, Trevor Feld, Phoenix Avery and Ruger Olsen, One Sister; Margie (Cleland) Quick originally from Burlington, Iowa, Four Brothers; Jim (Sandra) Cleland of Effingham, Illinois, John (Shirley) Cleland of Erie, Colorado, Elgie Cleland of Alpine, California and Dale Cleland of San Diego, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Husband, Two Sisters: Helen (Cleland) Forman and June (Cleland) Livermore and one Brother, Donald Cleland.
Betty was a bookkeeper for Yetter Manufacturing, Chenowith Implement and Davia Beverage.  She left bookkeeping due to her numerous surgeries.  She then went on to be known as the “Pie lady” of baking and selling at the Farmers Market in Macomb.  She enjoyed Archery, Baking, Sewing, Reading and Crocheting.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend.  She opened her heart to all helping raise three nieces, Jeanine and Brenda Cleland and Tina Avery, she also opened her door to family friend John Nicholas in his time of need.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 1, 2015, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Mary Jolene Miller, 87, of Lincoln went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at The Christian Village Nursing Home in Lincoln. She formerly resided in Mesa, AZ, and Pekin.

Private family services will be held at the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Colchester, Illinois.

Mary Jolene Martin was born on April 7, 1928 in Colchester the daughter of Archie Leroy and Nancy Arvilla Mourning Martin. She was united in marriage to Robert L. Miller on January 12, 1950 . He preceded her in death on May 13, 2001.

Surviving Mrs. Miller are her three sons: D. Brent (Lin) Miller of South Lebanon, OH., R. Brian (Gigi) Miller of Carmel, IN., A. Barry (Karen) Miller of Lincoln. One sister: Dorothy Jean (Lloyd) Yetter of Colchester. Six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister: Betty Lee Martin La Joie of Montana, one brother: Charles Leroy Martin of Texas.

Memorials may be made to Safe Haven Hospice, The Christian Village, or the Colchester United Methodist Church Youth Group.

Dr. Stephan L. Roth - 90

Dr. Stephan Ludwig Roth had a sudden heart attack at the age of 90 while swimming in his pool in Colchester, Illinois, and passed away in the afternoon on Friday, July 3, 2015.
Dr. Roth was born on March 30, 1925, in Tartlau, Romania. His father, Stefan Ludwig Roth, a pharmacist, moved the family 6 years later to Marktschelken to buy a pharmacy. His mother was Hermine (Wolf) Roth. Dr. Roth had 2 younger brothers. Walter died of health reasons due to the war but his 83 year old brother, Heinz, is still living with his family in Germany. After 57 years of marriage, Dr. Roth's wife, Traudi, passed away July 2, 2013.
In 1943, Dr. Roth went to fight in Russia as a German soldier in the tank division during WWII. After the Normandy invasion in 1944, Dr. Roth and the other soldiers were loaded up and traveled 4 days by train to fight in France. Dr. Roth was shot in the leg, captured, and taken prisoner of war in France for 3 years. Dr. Roth was released in 1947 and traveled to the university in Graz, Austria, to become a medical doctor which had been his goal since the 4th grade.
After the war, Dr. Roth found Traudi again, who he had met in high school, and they got married on a snowy day on Feb. 26, 1956, in St. Veit a.d. Glan, Austria. A few months later, the newlyweds traveled by ship to America. After Dr. Roth passed the medical board exams in Chicago, they moved to Alton, Ill., where their two daughters were born, Heidi, in 1958, and Ingrid in 1960.
The last and final move for the Roth family was to Colchester, IL, where Dr. Stephan L. Roth M.D., opened his office on June 6, 1961. He enjoyed being a family physician for 34 years seeing patients at his office, hospitals, and nursing homes. His commitment of care for his patients included making house calls day or night. In his spare time he delivered over 100 babies.
Throughout his life, Dr. Roth contributed to the community in many ways. He was an active member of the American Medical Ass., Illinois State Medical Society, McDonough County Medical Society, McDonough District Hospital, Colchester Lions Club, Business Ass., and School Board. He established Friendway Park in Colchester, was a director of Colchester and Macomb nursing homes and on the board of directors of First Federal Savings and Loan Bank. He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Macomb, Ill.
Dr. Roth had a sense of adventure. He enjoyed taking pictures as he traveled to Jamaica, South America, the Carribean Islands, Mexico, Africa, Europe, and to almost all of the U.S. 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii. With Dr. Roth's amazing memory for detail, he wrote 2 books about his life. He showed creativity especially in designing his elaborate backyard landscape. He loved to be active ice skating, snow skiing, swimming, tennis, ping pong, hiking in Colorado, and walking the beach in California. At the age of 90, he still had a daily exercise routine before breakfast in the morning. This is an example of the qualities that we will remember about Dr. Roth leading a disciplined and organized life.

Dr. Roth was an inspiration to all who knew him with his enegetic work ethic. His dedication and compassionate care for the community will be remembered. He proved that you are never too old to set a new goal or dream a new dream. Dr. Roth's zest and passion for life will be continued by his 2 daughters Heidi (Roth) Sutherland, and her husband, Steve, who live in Black Forest, Colorado with their children Brian and Gretchen, and Ingrid (Roth) Kraus and her husband, Erik, who live in Redondo Beach, California, with their children Nicholas and Brett., 2015. 

The visitation will be held at Jones Mortuary in Colchester on Sunday, July 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 9:00 A.M. Sunday.  A memorial service honoring the life of Dr. Stephan L. Roth will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 906 East Grant Street in Macomb, Illinois on Monday, July 13th at 12 noon.  Immediately following the service please join us for a time of sharing memories at the church fellowship hall.  Refreshments will be provided.  The family will have a private graveside service at Mt. Eugene M. Wilhelm, age 78 of Colchester, Illinois went home to his Lord at 9:11 am on July 1, 2015 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.
He was born on September 5, 1936 near Industry, Illinois to Justus Leo and Nancy Edna (Parker) Wilhelm.
Eugene first married Loydetta Hayes and she predeceased him.  Eugene and Sandra L. Leftridge were united in marriage on May 27, 1966, at the Disciple of Christ Christian Church in Macomb, Illinois and she survives in Colchester.
Also surviving to mourn his passage are three sons: Stephen (Hollie) Wilhelm of Dallas City, IL; Franklin (Thelma) Wilhelm of Newport, TN; Mark (Suzie) Wilhelm of Cosby, TN; Two Daughters: Penny (Jim) Pollock of Macomb, IL; Elizabeth (Tom) Duvall of Macomb, IL; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; his brother Jerry (Merrye) Wilhelm, of New London, IA; nieces, nephews and children of his heart.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; sister Nancy Chenoweth; Daughter Connie Wilhelm, grandson Daniel Wilhelm, great-grandson Louis Wilhelm; nephew Eric Wilhelm, his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Eugene was a member The Crossing Church in Macomb, IL; Gold Wing Road Riders; American Motorcycle Assoc. He was a past Girl Scout and Boy Scout Leader. He was also a past member of the Colchester Fire Department and the Colchester Lions Club. He volunteered at The Crossing Food Pantry.
Eugene has been employed by the City of Colchester, NTN-Bower Manufacturing and Yetter Manufacturing.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gardening, volunteering, enjoyed a good joke, visiting with family and friends and dancing with Sandy.
The funeral will be 10;30 A.M., Friday, July 10, 2015 at Jones Mortuary in Colchester, Illinois, with Rev. Timm Harting.  Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.  The family will Celebrate his Life and  meet with friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the Funeral Home.  Friends may sign the register book at the funeral home after 8:00 A.M. Wednesday.  Cremation rites have been recorded.
