Marilyn Joyce Locke - 749/8/1941 - 10/8/2015
On October 8, 2015 the streets of Heaven gained a beautiful, loving, and endlessly selfless angel. Marilyn “Joyce” Locke, 74, of Macomb, Illinois, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus at her home surrounded by family. Born September 8, 1941 in McDonough County, she is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, Elbert and Mary Jane (Roberson) Rigg; her sister, Linda Ward; her brother, Stanley Rigg, and two brother-in-laws, Larry Flockhart and Bill Shaffer.
Survivors include her loving husband, Paul Locke; two daughters, Paula (Mitch) Markey and Angela Locke both of Macomb, IL; her granddaughter, Angelica Markey; three grandsons, Caleb Markey, Cody Locke, and Colton Markey; one brother, Roger (Jennifer) Rigg; and four sisters, Carolyn (Don) Ussery, Janet Shaffer, Dora Ann Flockhart, and Kathy (Tarry) Thompson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love. A legacy that impacted her community and shaped her family. She represented the best that humanity can offer—demonstrating real sacrifice, generous giving, and a passion for the spirit of kindness on a daily basis—ideals that she implanted in the hearts of her children and grandchildren so that they could further spread it to the world.
Joyce channeled this love into her cooking knowing it would make others smile and keep her family coming home for more. She was known for her homemade lemonade, potato salad, mashed potatoes, ice-cream and so many other meals, the culinary world will deeply miss.
On Saturday mornings you could find her at a yard sale or thrift store looking for the best bargain; oftentimes, just so she could give it away to another. And in the evenings, she was always present on the front porch of her house—loving others and living deliberately.
She worked to support her family. She began by babysitting young children in her home, cleaning houses, and working at the Maid-Rite in Macomb. The majority of her working career was spent on the factory floor at Haeger Pottery in Macomb.
Put simply, she loved to love. It was in her nature. Her family and friends were the center of her world, and she would plan opportunities to bring everyone together to create memories—whether she was organizing a family gathering, creating new traditions, or attending a community event. She had a spunky personality and a sense of humor that made being with her fun and enjoyable. She was the luckiest woman. If she entered a drawing, you can bet her name would be drawn.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Rev. Lee Unger. Burial will follow the services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 9:00 A.M. Monday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that gives children hope. The family has also established the Marilyn “Joyce” Locke Spirit of Christmas Memorial which will be used to support the Macomb Christmas Lighting and Decorating Contest. Joyce considered no higher honor than spreading the joy, spirit and true meaning of Christmas. This was demonstrated through her elaborate Christmas display each year, one of the great prides of her life. Online Condolences may be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com
