James Hunter Obituary

James Hunter age 92 of Boulder, Colorado, formerly of Colchester, Illinois, passed away Friday, April 14, 2017, at Manor Care in Denver, Colorado. Jim was born January 9, 1925, in Colchester to Bert and Mabel Coplan Hunter. He was united in marriage on February 15, 1947, in Table Grove, Illinois to Doris E. Foster, She preceded him in death on April 29, 2014. Jim was also preceded in death by his parents and 1 Infant Sister.
Surviving to mourn his passing are many Nieces, nephews, cousins and long time friends.
Jim was a past member of the Colchester Lions Club, Colchester United Methodist Church. He was a 1942 Graduate of Colchester High School. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Air force, he graduated airplane airframe school in Gulfport, Ms. Aircraft Engine School, Willow Run, Michigan, B -24 Mechanic School, Charleston, South Carolina. He was given a beautiful round the world trip by the USAF with crossing Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, Suez Canal, by ship, India by train, 3 flights over the Hump, one year in Kunming China at the China end of the Berma Road, Crossed the Pacific by ship and the U.S. by troop train. Thanks to his GI bill, Jim enrolled at Western Illinois University as Accounting Major and also became the drummer for Western’s Band. Jim had been employed at Ogle motors Pontiac-Packard Dealer as the Accountant, Cook Chevrolet, for 15 years, he was with Yetter Manufacturing in Colchester as the accountant of which he was later promoted to Vice President. After his time at Yetter’s, Jim started selling Hammond Organs, which led to Jim and Doris moving to Boulder Colorado and opening a Hammond Organ Dealership, of which Jim and Doris won a trip to Portugal. Later in Jim’s life, he and Doris sold the business and Jim started working for the FDIC, as an accountant. Jim got his private pilots license which made it easy for him and Doris to return back to Colchester to visit friends and family. He also loved when he and Doris got to travel on his motorcycle.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester with Rev. Mark Smith. Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester. Military services will be held at the grave by the Macomb V.F.W. and Macomb American Legion. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home after 9:00 A.M. Friday. Memorial is to the Donors Choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family at jonesmortuaryfh.com
