Joan (Valentine) Humes

Joan Humes age 91 of Colchester, passed away, Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at the Elms Nursing Home in Macomb.  She was born January 27, 1933 in St. Marys Township, Hancock County, to Lawrence and Beulah Myers Valentine.  Joan was united in marriage January 10, 1951 in Yellville, Arkansas, to Gerald (Katsy) Humes.  He preceded her in death on May 22, 2016.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, 1 granddaughter: Mary Paul, 2 sisters: Geraldine Reeves and Eloise Norton.

Surviving are her children, Dennis Humes, Colchester, Teri (Kevin) Paul, Colchester, grandchildren: Jessica (Jay) Smith, Dana Point, California, Hillary Humes, Macomb, Haley Humes, Macomb, Brittney (Jimmy) Duke Paul, St. Louis, Missouri, Trenton Paul, Columbus, Mississippi, great grandchildren: JJ and Jacob Smith, Dana Point, California. 2 sisters: Grovine Stauffer, Queen Creek, Arizona, and Louise Michaelson, Pekin, Illinois.

Joan was a 1950 Colchester High School Graduate.  She loved sports and at one time was the third basemen for the Royalettes Softball Team.  She always loved attending her kids, and grand kids sporting events.  She enjoyed flower gardening, yard work, bird watching, dancing and listening to music.  She was a member of the Colchester United Methodist Church.  Joan held many different jobs her in lifetime, but being a Wife, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma brought her the greatest joy.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester.  Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.  Visitation with the family will be 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
