Gerald Beck Obituary

Gerald (Big-G) Beck age 83 of Colchester, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at  McDonough District Hospital.  He was born June 10, 1940 in Tennessee, Illinois, to Carl and Helen Clark Beck.  Gerald was united in marriage on July 21, 1962 in Tennessee, Illinois, to Karen Henson.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years Karen Beck, Colchester, 1 son: Jeff (Darlene) Beck, Abington, Illinois, 2 daughters: Beth (Mike) Weaver, Colchester, Jennifer Mourning, Colchester, 5 grandchildren: Amanda Hocker, Chris (Megan) Weaver, Matt (Breann) Weaver, Rebecca Beck, Kinley Mourning, 7 great grandchildren: Braelynn Mabrey, Kameron Cramer, Jaeli Weaver, Michael Hocker, Wes Hocker, Easton Weaver, Jaxon Weaver, and 2 great great grandchildren: Lennon Mabrey, Liam Mabrey.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, 1 granddaughter: Emily Beck, 4 brothers: Duane Beck, Richard Beck, Larry Beck, Wayne Beck, 5 sisters: Dorothy Lemley, Norma Williams, Martha Beck, Connie Beck, Darlene Beck.

Gerald had worked for Pepsi 23 years, he also drove a school bus for the Macomb, Colchester and West Prairie School Districts for over 40 years.  He was a past member of the Colchester School Board and Colchester City Council.  He coached little league baseball and softball for over 30 years and was active in the creation of the Colchester Summer Ball program.  He umpired many games in the area along with being the score keeper at Colchester Basketball games.  Gerald a true fan of the Cubs and Bears, but most of all he loved to watch his kids play softball, baseball, basketball and volleyball.  Gerald loved to spend time with his friends at McDonalds for breakfast or just meeting up with them and visiting.  Geralds family was always at the center of his life and loved every moment that he spent with them.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Jones Mortuary in Colchester, with Rev. Jim Clayton.  Burial will follow the services at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Colchester.  Friends may view and sign the register book at the funeral home from 8:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
